You are Unique
The best way to differentiate is to be unique. No one is like you, and no one has had your combination of opportunities, jobs, friends, trips, or interests.
You are lucky in this—since there are only three primary markets: health, wealth, and relationships. Where can you find a space for you, free from all the other health experts, wealth managers, or relationship gurus? The answer is in your unique experiences.
How To Create Authenticity
Here are five ways to be authentic:
- Showing your failures – when you show you are not perfect, that presents you as a real person. It’s the opposite of the trying too hard video on TikTok or the vacuous selfie on Instagram.
- Going way back – share stories from your childhood and connect them to your desires and interests now. These connections will show the depth of your commitment to the market and will appeal to your dream customers.
- Eliminating exaggeration – most people can tell if you are stretching the truth. Your audience is full of normal people. Do you think the best way to connect to your dream customers is to overdo it, trying to impress and say you are somehow better than them, implying that they don’t have much chance of the same success as ordinary people?
- Sharing your discoveries – if you find something useful, share it. Your audience is looking to you as their guide, and the best way to guide them is to put in the hard work to find things to help them and share.
- Showing your emotions – if you can tell stories with emotion, your dream customers will not only hear the action and details, but they will feel the same feelings, placing themselves deep into your story.
When you are authentic, your dream customers will see your imperfections and realize they are also on a similar journey. They will know how you used to be, similar to how they are now. They will know you can succeed by following you since you are as normal as them.
Being authentic in your stories will pay dividends by turning dream customers into loyal customers.
